Over the past couple of days we’ve seen how prominent the role of the Cabinet Sec for DCMS can be.
Normally it’s a position which is filled by the one person in the party who seems like a good bloke (it should really be renamed as the Minister for Nibbles) and has a small bit of subtlety so it doesn’t shock any part of business. This is why Jeremy Hunt got it. Let’s remember, he’s partly responsible for the Olympics, and imagine if you had a nasty Europhobe in charge.
Now we find out that while trying to be nice, Jeremy hunt was also trying to be helpful to people he shouldn’t of been nice too. His defence in the commons today seemed to of shaken him, “why are you attacking me,” he seems to have said. “I was only trying to be nice.”
Now the one thing with all politicians they need a bit of political sense otherwise, when they’re trying to be nice, other things might bite them when the story comes full circle. His involvement in the BSkyB deal, along with his relationship with Murdoch Junior, and Senior, has implicated that he has no sense, he’s inept, and if this was anything to go by, let’s hope he’s gone by the time of the Olympics.
Hunt must go, he should of expected this backlash, even if he was just trying to be nice.
